Technology as a total social fact: crossed perspectives between theological, human and social sciences
Abstract: Technology nowadays imposes itself as a total social fact, tending to mobilize all dimensions of human life. For theology, it is a participation in creation. But this requires moral discernment to avoid the idolatry of progress. For classical anthropology, it is an extension of the body, a vector of myths, and a cultural system. As for sociology, technology is like a social actor, structuring relationships, institutions, and inequalities. However, the resulting digital divides reveal issues of governance and power. Therefore, ethics seeks to question certain contemporary dilemmas: AI, surveillance, biotechnology, and sustainability. In this way, the responsibility of designers and users is central, oriented toward justice and fraternity. This is why sustainability requires rethinking production, use, and recycling. Technology must thus become an ally for a world that seeks to be fairer and more sustainable.
